Motivation For The Motivator.
I try to bring you motivation. I try to make these posts as inspiring as possible. Sometimes, I succeed, sometimes I just manage to make you smile. I am in the business of motivating people and I am very good at pushing people to identify and maximise their potentials. Well, I have been told that I am good at it. I know I am good at it.
Most times, As I speak to people, I always try to remind myself of everything I share, so as to apply it to myself too.
Yesterday, my brain was rewired. Something great happened to me.
I was on the phone for a total of 2 hours 12 minutes with one of the most important people in my life. A long lost friend who recently reappeared and reclaimed a huge chunk of my heart. I hadn’t seen her in about 15 years and a few months ago, we found each other again.
Those who know me and follow me will attest to the fact that I am a deep lover. When I love people, I love them totally and I usually never stop.
So, Maks reappeared and our love and friendship is as strong as it was all those years ago, in fact, I dare say it’s stronger.
So, I was talking to Maks last night and suddenly it felt like the table was turned and as she asked me questions about what I do and I answered, she called me out on a few bullshits that I had convinced myself of.
I am usually the one who inspires, and motivates and calls people out and gets them to move from where they are to where they could be.
But, last night, I changed seats and received.
I just sat there and listened to her going on. And I was wowed! I kept thinking, “Oh My God!” This is so true…
I got clarity on a lot of professional issues. I was inspired to push further. To explore more options. To break more boundaries…
I was lifted and mesmerised by her faith in me. She saw me in even better light than I saw myself, and you know that I totally believe that I am all shades of awesome (with my warts and all)… And she knew how to push the right buttons in my head. I won’t bore you with the details of the things she said. I will just tell you that as she pushed those buttons, more lights lit up in my head and in my heart.
It was one of the greatest gifts I have received in a long time.
Now, I’m chuffed! And ready to take this thing to the next level. My pace will be my own, but I am moving.
And I am grateful to Maks. For seeing what she sees in me. For voicing it out and for shredding all my “but’s”.
And this is the message for you today, no matter where you are in life, and no matter what you have; find people and sources of inspiration and motivation. Identify people you find inspiring. Read inspiring books and blogs. Watch a few of those videos that will quicken your heart with determination to succeed. Find people who will see good in you and tell you.
You will never have it all. You will never know it all. And if you’ve found yourself on the giving end of the stick, believe me that you will need even more someone to help you with refills. You will need someone who will point out the greys in your path. You will need motivation, constantly.
And as Edmund Lee said, “Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.”
And be that person to the people in your life too.
Have you found your own “Maks”? How has this person stepped forward to help you forward?
